Pressure Treated Wooden Post Caps
£0.99 – £1.25
Pressure treated post caps to fit either a 75mm or 100mm wooden fence post.
Our wooden post caps have been manufactured from quality softwood (spruce). To help protect against rot, they are fully pressure treated. This treatment process also referred to as tanalization. The caps are designed to fit either a 75mm or 100mm (3 inch or 4 inch approx’) fence post. Please select your desired size from drop-down menu. The true size of each cap is slightly larger than the post size to allow some overhang on the post. Specific sizes are listed below – please check when ordering.
Installing Post Caps
When installing wooden post caps, it is advised that pilot holes are drilled in advance of screwing down to help to stop the cap from splitting, especially during hot weather. The wood can naturally harden and develop cracks in the sun. The cracks will close up again during the colder and wet months of the year. Pilot holes can prevent further cracking and splitting. It is best to use a drill bit slightly smaller than the screw. This will ensure that the screw still bites the timber and fixed the cap in a secure fashion.
Please make sure that more than one screw or nail is used when fixing the cap down. This ensures it doesn’t twist round when in position. At least 2 screws should be used to secure the cap down.
We can also supply these caps in brown or untreated. We also stock metal fence post caps.

Although the caps are treated, it is a good idea to periodically re-treat. We generally recommend doing this every 2-3 years on an ‘as needed’ basis. All timber will eventually be susceptible to rotting in the elements, treated or not. This re-treating practice can slow the rotting process down.
